On simple approximations to simple curves 1

We show that the property of a planar parametric curve of being simple, is preserved by an approximation when the curve is piecewise smooth and generalized regular, provided that the errors to the curve and its tangent vectors are sufficiently small. To this purpose, we provide also an explicit error threshold.

Calculation of values of L-functions associated to elliptic curves

We calculated numerically the values of L-functions of four typical elliptic curves in the critical strip in the range Im(s) ≤ 400. We found that all the non-trivial zeros in this range lie on the critical line Re(s) = 1 and are simple except the one at s = 1. The method we employed in this paper is the approximate functional equation with incomplete gamma functions in the coefficients. For inc...

Concerning Simple Continuous Curves

Various definitions of simple continuous arcs and closed curves have been given, f The definitions of arcs usually contain the requirement that the point-set in question should be bounded. In attempting to prove that every interval t of an open curve as defined in a recent paper \ is a simple continuous arc, while I found it easy to prove that t satisfies all the other requirements of Janiszews...

Simple Curves on Surfaces

We study simple closed geodesics on a hyperbolic surface of genus g with b geodesic boundary components and c cusps. We show that the number of such geodesics of length at most L is of order L. This answers a long-standing open question. Let S be a hyperbolic surface of genus g with c cusps and b boundary components. In this paper we study the set of simple (that is, without selfintersections) ...
